What is Eye Thermage?

The short answer

Eye Thermage is radiofrequency tightening planned for the eye area alone. Radiofrequency heat contracts collagen in the dermis and stimulates fibroblasts to build new collagen; around the lids that energy is delivered through a smaller applicator sized for skin the face applicator was never meant to touch. Rewind lists the eye plans as treatments in their own right, at 225 and 450 shots, apart from the 600-shot face plan.

Eyelid skin is the thinnest on the body and sits straight over a muscle that moves every time you blink, speak or squint. Everything about how the eye area is quoted here follows from that: a separate applicator, a separate shot count, a separate line on the price list.

The treatment does not remove anything. No skin is excised, nothing is placed under the lid, and the surface is left intact, so there is no wound to manage in the days afterwards.

Which zones around the eye does an eye plan reach?

Four zones ring the eye, and each ages on a different schedule. The doctor decides at consultation how the shots in your plan are distributed between them; nothing here is a fixed template.

Skin that has started to rest lower than the fold it used to sit above. Crepey texture here shows up in photographs long before anyone calls it sagging.

The thin band under the lash line, where slackness usually reads first as a shadow and only later as a bulge.

Expression lines that stay etched at rest. This corner takes a disproportionate share of the shots in most eye plans.

Why the eye area is treated on settings of its own

Radiofrequency current meets resistance as it passes through tissue, and resistance becomes heat. Collagen fibres shorten at that temperature and the cells that build collagen are provoked into laying down more. The physics is the same everywhere on the face. What changes at the eye is how little tissue there is to absorb it.

01Thickness

Thin skin changes the arithmetic

Lid skin is a fraction of the thickness of cheek skin and has almost no fat beneath it to buffer heat. An eye plan therefore runs on a smaller applicator footprint, and the energy and pass pattern are set by the operator against what is in front of them, not by a number printed on a chart.

02Movement

Muscle that never stops working

The orbicularis ring closes the eye thousands of times a day and creases the skin at the outer corner every time it does. Tightening the dermis softens how deeply those creases sit; it does not switch off the muscle that makes them.

03Two clocks

One session runs on two timescales

Some contraction is immediate. The rest arrives slowly, as new collagen matures over the months after the session. That half tends to show up in photographs before anyone catches it in the mirror.

04Count

The shot count is the plan

Rewind publishes eye plans at 225 and 450 shots. That figure is the unit the quote is built on, so ask which count your plan assumes and how it will be spread across the four zones before you agree to anything.

Why have the eye area planned by a surgeon who operates on eyelids?

Most people who ask about Eye Thermage have already decided they do not want eyelid surgery. That is a legitimate starting point, and it still leaves a question only an examination can settle: is the thing bothering you actually skin?

01Diagnosis

Skin, fat or muscle decides whether energy is the right tool

A shadow under the eye can be lax skin, a pad of fat pushing forward, a hollow below it, or pigment. Radiofrequency addresses one of those. Dr. Choi examines the lid in person and says which one he is looking at, including on the days when the answer is that heat will not help you.

02Range

An eye plan is one option among seven devices

Ultrasound, two radiofrequency platforms, microneedling radiofrequency, microwave, InMode and a picosecond laser sit in the same clinic. Because no single machine has to answer for every complaint around the eye, the recommendation can be narrow.

03Continuity

The surgeon who plans the eye area also reviews it

Everything happens on the fourth and fifth floors of the Richro Building in Apgujeong. The visit opens with the medical director examining the lid and setting the plan, and the session itself is carried out in the clinic's device room. Rewind consults Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 to 19:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00, and the whole practice works by appointment only, which is worth knowing if you are fitting a session around a working day in Seoul.

Two questions are worth asking out loud at the desk, here or anywhere else. First, ask for the applicator packaging to be opened in front of you and check that the count on the box matches the count on your quote. Second, ask about comfort and about how long to keep the afternoon free: Rewind does not publish an anaesthesia protocol or a session length for this treatment, so ask for both and have the answers written into your plan.

When the eye applicator earns its place, and when it is the wrong answer

The most useful thing a consultation can produce is a clear no. Heat around the lid has a narrow job, and a surgeon who performs eyelid operations has no reason to pretend otherwise.

Where an eye plan tends to help

  • Fine lines and crepey texture at the outer corner, where the skin still springs back when you stop smiling
  • Early slackness on the lower lid shelf that still reads as a shadow and has not yet become a bulge
  • A first treatment for someone who wants the eye area addressed without time away from work
  • Skin that has been tightened before and is due maintenance, with the interval set by the doctor

Where an eye plan is the wrong tool

  • Upper-lid skin resting on the lashes, or a fold that has disappeared under overhanging skin: this is a surgical question, and Dr. Choi will say so at the consultation
  • A lower-lid bulge made of fat pushing forward, which heat does not move
  • Hollowing under the eye, where tightening can deepen the shadow it was meant to soften
  • Filler, threads or another energy treatment placed in the same zone recently
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding, an active skin infection at the site, or an implanted electronic device

The days after an eye-area session

Rewind's aftercare for device lifting is short enough to remember and specific enough to be worth following exactly. Bruising or swelling can appear and settles within a few days; ordinary activity resumes straight away.

Normal activity is possible immediately. Sauna, hard exercise and alcohol are left out for the rest of the day, all three being things that flush the face.

Do not rub or press the treated area. Any bruising or puffiness at the lid margin subsides over the following days.

Keep moisturising and use sun protection without exception. Thin lid skin has the least natural defence on the face.

Collagen keeps responding after the session. Rewind records device lifting results lasting from six months to more than a year, depending on skin condition and on the plan used.

Energy delivered near the eye carries real risk: temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness and altered sensation are the common ones, and superficial burns or blistering are uncommon but documented for heat-based devices. Eye Thermage — what patients ask at the consultation desk

What is Eye Thermage?
Eye Thermage is radiofrequency tightening planned for the eye area alone. The current heats the dermis, collagen fibres contract and fibroblasts are stimulated to build new collagen. Nothing is cut and nothing is left under the lid.
How does the eye plan differ from the full-face plan?
It runs on a smaller applicator, over skin that is a fraction of the thickness of cheek skin, and Rewind lists it as its own treatment at 225 or 450 shots. The face plan is published separately at 600 shots and booked as a separate treatment.
How many shots does an eye plan use?
Either 225 or 450, and the doctor sets which after examining the lid. The count is what your quote is built on, so ask how those shots will be distributed between the upper lid, lower lid, outer corner and brow tail.
Can it get rid of under-eye bags?
Not if the bag is fat pushing forward. Radiofrequency tightens skin, so it can improve a shadow caused by slack skin and will leave a fat-driven bulge where it is. The examination is what separates the two, and the answer sometimes points to eyelid surgery.
Will it open a hooded upper eyelid?
Only at the margins. Where upper-lid skin is resting on the lashes, tightening the dermis does not remove the overhang, and Dr. Choi will say as much at the consultation before any plan is written.
What are the risks of treating skin this close to the eye?
Temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness and altered sensation are the usual ones. Superficial burns or blistering are uncommon but documented for heat-based devices, which is the reason the plan is set by the doctor and the settings are chosen against your own lid.
What does the session feel like around the eye?
Sensation differs from person to person and the eye area is more sensitive than the cheek. Rewind publishes no fixed comfort protocol for this treatment, so raise the question when you book and have the answer written into your plan.
How soon does the eye area look different, and how long does it hold?

Can the eye plan and the face plan be done on the same visit?

I have had filler or threads under my eyes. Does that matter?
Yes, and it should be raised before the plan is written. Heat interacts with material already placed in the tissue, so tell the doctor what was injected or placed, where, and how recently, even if it was years ago and somewhere else.
What should I avoid in the days after?
Skip sauna, strenuous exercise and alcohol on the day itself. For one to two days do not rub or press the lid, and keep up moisturiser and sun protection while the skin responds.

Two of these papers study the periorbital area directly; the others describe what radiofrequency does to collagen and elastin, and one of them weighs how strong the evidence for skin tightening actually is. They report on devices, settings and patients that are not Rewind's, and no individual outcome follows from them.
