How many years does a mini facelift last?

The recorded answer

Rewind records its mini facelift as holding for more than five years, and states in the same sentence that this varies from one person to the next. The figure describes the lifted SMAS layer of the middle and lower face staying where it was fixed. It does not describe a face that stops ageing. On the second question patients raise, whether a mini facelift can later give way to a full facelift, the clinic publishes no fixed rule: the full operation opens the whole route of which the mini opens only a stretch, and whether it suits a face years on is decided by examining that face at the time.

Five years is the number people remember, and it is easy to hear it as an expiry date. It works better as a description of scope. A mini facelift repositions one region of the face through one stretch of incision, and the five-year record belongs to that limited repair. The cheeks, jaw line and folds it lifted carry on ageing from their new starting point, while the areas it never touched carry on ageing from their old one.

Reading the figure

What the mini facelift's five-year record does and does not promise

The clinic's figure is short, and each part of it carries weight. Taken piece by piece, it says more than a single number suggests.

A record with its caveat attached
Rewind writes more than five years and adds that individuals differ. The two halves belong together: the number sets an expectation, and the caveat says a given face may hold longer or soften sooner.

It measures the lifted layer
What is recorded is how long the fascia drawn up and fixed during surgery keeps its position. Surface lines, pigment and the volume a face loses with age sit outside that measurement.

It belongs to the mini scope alone
The partial lift, which the clinic calls an extension of the mini, is recorded at more than three years, and the full lift at more than ten. The mini's figure is never borrowed from either of them.

It sets no date for further surgery
Nothing in the record tells anyone to return at year five. Whether a second operation makes sense, and which one, depends on how the face has changed, and that is known only by examining it.

LL lifting, the clinic's small-incision operation that fixes threads straight into the SMAS, is recorded on a different scale again: 12 to 24 months, a range the clinic ties to skin elasticity and daily habits. It is a separate operation with a separate figure, named here only so the two are not confused. Long-term follow-up of full facelift patients, surveyed more than a decade after surgery, shows how satisfaction can shift as the years pass; the mini lift keeps its own, shorter record.

Why a mini facelift holds for years, and where its hold ends

The mini operation's published steps explain both halves of its record: why the correction can outlast the swelling by years, and why its reach falls short of the full lift's.

01Fixation

The mini facelift fixes the fascia, so the skin carries no load

After the skin flap is raised, the SMAS beneath it is opened, drawn upward and fixed. Only then is the loose skin trimmed. The tension sits in a fibrous layer that can bear it, and that is what allows a result to be counted in years. SMAS-based lifting has been described in Asian faces as well, for example in a 2017 series on an extended SMAS technique.

02Reach

One stretch of the route limits how far the mini lift can travel

The mini lift opens only the part of the hairline-to-ear or ear-to-behind-ear line that the examination calls for, and its published steps include no release of the retaining ligaments beneath the SMAS, a step the full lift adds. Less tissue is freed, so less is moved, and the recorded span is shorter. Shorter-incision lifts form a family of their own in the literature; a 2005 paper on minimal-access cranial suspension lifting is one example.

03Border

The edge of the mini facelift field meets tissue that was never lifted

Coverage is the middle and lower face. The brow, the eye area and the neck beneath the jaw line age on their own schedule, and over the years a lifted cheek can begin to look out of step with a neck that was left alone.

04Anatomy

Any later lift works in the same anatomy as the mini facelift

Branches of the facial nerve run beneath the SMAS, and a 2020 anatomical review mapped the zones where they lie most exposed. A second lift of any size works in that same territory, one reason a later operation is planned from a new examination of the face as it is at that point.

01Fit

The mini facelift figure is quoted when the descent is mini-sized

If sagging has started in one area, such as the nasolabial fold, the cheek or the jaw line, the mini scope and its five-year record apply. If the fold, cheek, jaw line and neck have dropped together, or skin elasticity has fallen a long way, the examination points to the full lift and its own figure.

02Limits

What the mini lift will leave unchanged is named at the same appointment

Dr. Choi sets out which regions the operation leaves untouched and which signs of ageing no lift addresses, so that a change noticed in year three is read for what it is: often an untreated neck ageing beside a cheek that is still holding.

03Return

A returning patient is examined by the surgeon who performed the first lift

The clinic occupies floors four and five of the Richro Building in Apgujeong (Gangnam-gu, Seoul), and everything connected with a mini facelift happens under that roof: the examination that sizes the descent, the operation, the dressing week and any reassessment years later. Appointments run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 to 19:00, and Saturday, 10:00 to 16:00, all by reservation; Thursday and Sunday are closed. List prices exclude VAT, and the anaesthetic fee already sits inside each figure. The partial lift and LL lifting carry no published list price and are quoted after examination.

Setting the mini fee of ₩3,000,000 beside the full facelift at ₩9,000,000 tells you about scope, since the full lift opens more, releases more and is recorded for longer. It cannot tell you which one your face needs. That comes from the examination, and a later full lift, if one is ever advised, is quoted from a new examination at that time.

Who tends to keep a mini facelift result longer, and when a different plan is advised

Circumstances in favour of a longer-lasting mini lift

  • Sagging that has only started, and in one area: the nasolabial fold, the cheek, the jaw line or the neck
  • Skin that keeps some elasticity, so the fixed layer is not asked to carry very lax skin above it
  • A plan made early, to get ahead of lines and sagging, which the clinic lists among the reasons for choosing the mini lift
  • No smoking, a steady weight and daily sun protection in the years after surgery

When the mini scope is advised against, or surgery is postponed

  • Descent in the fold, cheek, jaw line and neck at once, the pattern the clinic assigns to the full lift
  • Elasticity reduced so far that a partial correction would leave the rest of the face behind
  • Hollowing from lost volume, which a lift moves tissue around without refilling
  • Infection near the planned incision line, pregnancy, or blood thinners and clotting problems that cannot be managed before surgery

Mini facelift aftercare that shapes how long the lift holds

The mini lift's record is made in theatre and protected in the weeks that follow, while the fixed fascia settles. Rewind's instructions for that stretch of time are short and specific.

The dressing stays on
The compression dressing goes on at the end of surgery and stays for about a week without being taken off. Pressing on the face and rubbing beneath it are avoided.

A mini facelift is surgery and carries surgical risks: bleeding or haematoma, infection, swelling that lasts longer than expected, asymmetry between the two sides, numbness or altered sensation, injury to a facial nerve branch, and a scar that heals wider or more visibly than planned. How long any result holds cannot be promised; the five-year figure is the one the clinic records, and individual results vary.

How long does a mini facelift last: questions about the years after

Is five years the limit of how long a mini facelift lasts?
No limit is implied. The clinic's record reads more than five years, with a note that people differ, so five years is an expectation carrying a caveat. Some faces hold the correction for longer and some soften sooner, while ageing carries on throughout.
If sagging returns after a mini facelift, can a full facelift be done later?
Rewind publishes no fixed rule for moving from one lift to the next. The full facelift opens the whole hairline and ear route, of which the mini opens a stretch, and adds release of the retaining ligaments. Whether it suits a face years later is judged by examining the spread of descent and the skin's elasticity at that time.
Does the rest of my face keep ageing after a mini facelift?

Does having a mini facelift at a younger age make it last longer?

Which instructions in the first weeks protect how long a mini facelift holds?
Keep the compression dressing on for its full week. For some time after that, leave out strong massage, sauna, alcohol and smoking, and do not tug the face opposite to the way it was lifted. Strenuous exercise and steam rooms wait at least four weeks while the fixed fascia settles.
Will the mini facelift scar stay hidden in the years that follow?
The incision runs inside the hairline and along the ear, and Rewind describes the healed line as hard to see from outside. Scars mature differently from person to person, so an invisible line cannot be promised. Sun protection and scar care while it heals are part of the clinic's instructions.
Is there published evidence on how long shorter-incision lifts hold?
Shorter-incision lifting has its own literature, including a 2005 paper on the minimal-access cranial suspension (MACS) lift. Long-term survey figures come mostly from full facelifts: in one, satisfaction stood at 97.8 percent at one year and was lower at a follow-up averaging 12.6 years. Neither predicts an individual mini lift result.
