How long is recovery after ptosis correction?

The short answer

Rewind performs ptosis correction only together with a double eyelid crease, so its recovery follows the aftercare sheet for that crease method. Rewind's buried-crease sheet puts visible swelling and bruising at around 48 hours; its incisional upper-lid sheet gives bruising and swelling one to two weeks to fade. With the correction added the lid has had more work, so plan on the slower end, and expect lid height to keep settling after the bruising has gone.

Rewind publishes no separate recovery sheet, suture-removal day, anaesthetic or theatre time for the correction. Timings below come from the clinic's sheets for its crease and upper-lid operations, and anything specific to your plan is confirmed by the surgeon.

When do the eyelid heights even out? No date is published. Swelling rarely leaves two lids at the same speed, so they can look uneven for a while even when the correction is on target. The operating surgeon compares them at follow-up, and a difference that persists once the swelling has gone is assessed before anything further is discussed.

For someone flying in, that means booking two kinds of time: the days until you feel presentable, and the follow-up visits at which the surgeon checks the lids. The first depends mostly on the crease method. The second is set at your consultation, against the days the clinic is open.

What is healing

Four things that recover at different speeds after ptosis correction

Recovery is easier to plan once you know what is healing. After ptosis correction four things settle, and they do not settle together.

Bruising
The most visible early sign. After an incisional upper lid Rewind records it easing within one to two weeks, with individual variation; after a buried crease the visible phase is shorter.

Swelling
Swelling makes the lid look fuller and the fold higher than they will be. It is what distorts early lid height, and it can leave one side faster than the other.

The incision line
If the carrying crease was incisional, the line keeps its own timetable. Rewind notes that by about two months its redness has settled enough to be covered with light makeup outdoors. A buried crease leaves no incision line.

Lid height
The part specific to the correction, and the slowest to judge. It is checked at follow-up once swelling has gone, and a difference between the two eyes is examined before any further step.

01Day 0

The lid is kept clean and left alone

You rest in the recovery room before leaving. From the start the area is kept clean to prevent infection, the eyes are not rubbed, and forced eye movements are avoided, as the incisional upper-lid sheet asks.

02Days 1–2

Swelling and bruising at their most visible

After a buried crease Rewind records swelling and bruising for about the first 48 hours. With the correction added this phase may run longer and may differ between the two eyes.

03Week 1

Heat, sweat and friction stay off the schedule

The buried-lid sheet asks you to avoid saunas, steam rooms and hard exercise for about a week and to use a low-irritant cleanser without scrubbing. The partial-incision sheet adds alcohol, smoking, contact lenses, makeup and eye-squeezing exercises until the surgeon clears them.

04Sutures

Washing first, then makeup

The buried-crease sheet lets you wash your face from the day following suture removal; eye makeup waits another one to two weeks. When the sutures come out is decided at follow-up, since no day is published for this item.

05Months

Heights are compared as the swelling goes

Once bruising has gone the lid can still be settling. Rewind notes that an incisional line's redness has faded enough for light makeup by about two months. A thread that loosens or a lid shape that changes after a buried crease is a reason to come in early.

01Swelling

Swelling hides the true height

Photographs taken at home in the first days often show one lid higher than the other. Much of that is uneven swelling, and the surgeon who set the height is the one who can tell it apart from a real difference.

02Calendar

Visits are placed against open days

Thursdays and Sundays are closed days at Rewind, and Saturday hours end at 16:00. Follow-up dates should be agreed at the consultation, so that a return flight does not fall ahead of the check.

03Continuity

One surgeon from theatre to review

The medical director operates and holds every follow-up, so the lids are compared by the person who recorded their starting height. Language support continues through every follow-up for overseas patients at this KHIDI-registered clinic.

Each figure is a listed rate with the anaesthetic fee inside and VAT still to be added. A shorter recovery is no reason to choose a method the lid cannot hold: the method is set by lid thickness and fat, and the recovery follows from it.

A compact plan is realistic when

These are the restrictions on Rewind's sheets for the crease methods that carry the correction, gathered in one place.

Keep it clean, leave it alone
Keep the area clean to prevent infection, do not rub the eyes, and avoid forced eye movements. A low-irritant cleanser replaces scrubbing.

Saunas, steam rooms, bathhouses and exercise that raises a sweat wait for about a week after a buried crease.
For a set period
Lenses, makeup, alcohol, smoking
After a partial-incision crease the sheet lists alcohol, smoking, contact lenses, makeup, rubbing and eye-squeezing exercises to avoid; the length of that period is set at follow-up.
While healing
Sunscreen on the line
Sunscreen is asked for after incisional upper-lid surgery, so that pigment does not settle into the healing line.

Contact the clinic promptly for severe pain, fever, persistent bleeding or a sudden change in vision. Uneven swelling, a lid that seems to sit too high or too low, dryness or irritation of the eye surface and altered sensation are all recognised after eyelid surgery and are assessed at follow-up. Surgery is not scheduled while infection or inflammation around the eye is present.

How long is recovery after ptosis correction?
It follows the crease method that carries the correction. Visible swelling lasts around two days on the buried-crease sheet, while bruising after an incisional upper lid takes one to two weeks to fade. With the correction added, plan on the slower end.

Can I fly home soon after ptosis correction?
Rewind publishes no fixed length of stay for this item. The deciding factors are the crease method, other eye work in the same session and the follow-up visits the surgeon wants. Ask for the minimum stay in writing at your consultation, ahead of booking flights.
Does ptosis correction take longer to recover from than a crease alone?
The clinic publishes no separate sheet for the correction, so the same rules apply. The lid has had more done to it, however, so swelling may last longer, and lid height adds one more thing to be reviewed once the swelling has gone.
Can I exercise or drink alcohol during recovery?
Not straight away. Exercise that makes you sweat, and saunas or steam rooms, are put off for roughly seven days with a buried crease. The partial-incision sheet also rules out alcohol and smoking for a time, and the surgeon tells you at follow-up when each can resume.
Is dryness of the eye normal after the correction?
Dryness or irritation of the eye surface is a recognised effect after eyelid surgery and is listed among the risks of correcting the opening. Mention it at follow-up; severe pain, a fever or sudden blurring of vision is a reason to call the clinic at once.
